The History of Arena Nova in Wiener Neustadt
Since its grand opening in 1995, Arena Nova in Wiener Neustadt has firmly established itself as a versatile and modern multi-purpose hall, becoming a central event venue in the region. With its unique urban character and flexible use, it significantly contributes to the city’s cultural and economic development and is now an indispensable part of urban life.
Construction began on March 1, 1995, in the newly developed Civitas Nova district in the northeast of Wiener Neustadt, utilizing approximately 5,500 cubic meters of concrete and 330 tons of steel reinforcement. Particularly impressive is the distinctive wooden roof construction with a span of 63 meters, while the hall’s dimensions are 90 meters long and 62 meters wide. Originally built for the 1995 Women’s Handball World Championship, Arena Nova has since evolved into a versatile event venue.
In addition to sports events, it hosts concerts, trade fairs, congresses, and numerous other events.

Over the years, Arena Nova has been continuously expanded and modernized:
2001
Hall 3, the “Arena Nova Sport”, an additional hall specifically for sports events, was opened.
2003
Hall 4, “Arena Nova Fun”, followed as another exhibition and event space.
2004
Hall 2, “Arena Nova Cult”, was created as a replacement for the former Bank Austria tent and has since offered flexible usage options.
2017
A comprehensive modernization in 2017 brought technological advancements to Arena Nova: lighting and sound technology, as well as all event technology, were renewed, a powerful Wi-Fi system was installed, parking management was optimized, and conference equipment was brought up to date. With this combination of tradition, state-of-the-art technology, and flexible usage options, Arena Nova will remain a top location for events in Wiener Neustadt and the surrounding area in the future.
